Kassandra Buseck Recognized as Outstanding High School Senior

The University at Albany has recognized Kassandra Buseck of Johnstown, a student at Johnstown High School, as one of its 2010 Multicultural High School Achievers.

The University is recognizing 177 outstanding high school seniors from the greater Capital District and beyond as recipients of the Awards.

Selected for exemplary academic performance and leadership in their schools and communities, the award winners are being honored at a special event on Saturday, Oct. 2. They will take part in campus tours and information sessions. The awards ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Lecture Center 18 on UAlbany's main campus at 1400 Washington Ave.

Now in its 23rd year, the recognition program is designed to honor outstanding students and encourage them to continue their leadership development in college. To date, the program has recognized 4200 students of color.

One of the UAlbany's distinctive strengths is its diversity. Students come from more than 90 different nations and a wide range of political, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

This fall, UAlbany welcomed a highly accomplished and diverse class of incoming freshmen, with nearly one-quarter of the 2,250 students ranking in the top 10 percent of their high school class. These new students entered UAlbany from a pool of 21,967 applicants, with an average high school grade of 91 and an admission rate of 47 percent. The class, with 36 percent students of color, is one of the most diverse to enroll at the University.
